The self-contained Petrel Reservoir Geomechanics software allows 3D and 4D modeling of rock stresses and deformations in a reservoir and its surrounding over-, under-, and side-burdens.

By combining the powerful functionality of the VISAGE simulator with the Petrel platform, the Petrel Reservoir Geomechanics software brings geomechanics inside the range of seismic-to-simulation workflows already existing within the Petrel platform.

Petrel Reservoir Geomechanics software comprises two components:
• The VISAGE finite element geomechanics simulator, to perform the numerical stress and displacement computations for intact, faulted, and naturally fractured rock
• A Petrel module for the model creation, property population, preprocessing, simulation-launch, and run management, as well as further post-processing, including results checking and visualization

Release Details

  • Addition of porosity updating in two-way coupling between the VISAGE simulator and ECLIPSE industry-reference reservoir simulator
  • Cartesian local grid refinement (LGRs), providing enhanced resolution around wells and faults
  • A GPU version of the VISAGE simulator, exploiting GPU technology in Windows or Linux machines for faster parallel geomechanics simulations
