New Software Release

OLGA 2021.1 is Now Available

Tuesday, 07 December 2021

Product overview

The OLGA dynamic multiphase flow simulator models transient flow (time-dependent behaviors) to maximize production potential. Transient modeling is an essential component for feasibility studies and field development design. Dynamic simulation is essential in deep water and is used extensively in both offshore and onshore developments to investigate transient behavior in pipelines and wellbores.

Transient simulation with the OLGA simulator provides an added dimension to steady-state analysis by predicting system dynamics, such as time-varying changes in flow rates, fluid compositions, temperature, solids deposition, and operational changes.

From wellbore dynamics for any well completion to pipeline systems with various types of process equipment, the OLGA simulator provides an accurate prediction of key operational conditions involving transient flow.

OLGA 2021.1 will be available soon within the Petrotechnical Suite in the DELFI cognitive E&P environment.

Release updates

Updated NORSOK Corrosion model

The updated corrosion model includes NORSOK M-506:2017 standard. The NORSOK model calculates pH and corrosion rate in bulk water and the updates for OLGA 2021.1 now account for the effect on pH of acetic acid. An increase of acetic acid will, in general, tend to increase corrosion rate due to a lower pH.

Enhanced functionality for single component fluids

OLGA can now use pressure-enthalpy fluid tables in the simulation of single component fluid systems. The new functionality allows you to use any equation of state for pressure-enthalpy calculations in OLGA without the need to use OLGA Compositional Tracking.

Improved accuracy for speed of sound computations

OLGA 2021.1 presents an improved calculation method for speed of sound computations to improve accuracy and numerical robustness close to the critical point.

Integrated with FieldTwinTM design to streamline profile generation

FieldTwin Design from FutureOn® enables users to build and visualize a digital copy of their physical assets. You can now import pipeline and well geometry data into the OLGA simulator directly from FieldTwin Design by FutureOn. X, Y, and Z co-ordinates, pipeline inner diameter, and pipe roughness can be imported directly into the OLGA simulator profile generator where the existing OLGA simulator features can be leveraged for further analysis and simulation.

Improved flexibility in modeling of pressure protection systems

OLGA 2021.1 introduces improved flexibility and usability to assist in the design of high-pressure
protection systems and associated modelling of the scenarios. Two new keys allow the mass transfer for condensation and vaporization to be tuned separately.

Expanded scripting capabilities with the OLGA Messaging Software Development Kit (SDK) plug-in

A fully documented C API for the communication protocol ZeroMQ, called OlgaMsgSDK, is available for use with the OLGA simulator. This SDK provides advantages over the existing open platform communications (OPC) server functionality in terms of access and performance. The functionality can be leveraged as part of core OLGA simulator license. The SDK includes three wrappers for the API: Python, C++, and C#, allowing a number of options to be leveraged.

Further details on changes to OLGA 2021.1 can be found in the OLGA simulator Release Notes, which are available for download via the production software download server on the Schlumberger Software Download Center.

The product is suitable for use by production, process, and flow assurance engineers, and those involved in multiphase flow simulation.
