New Software Release

Techlog 2021.2 Now Available

Thursday, 25 November 2021

Product overview

The Techlog wellbore software platform has been continually developed and tested for the last 20 years. The result is a leading wellbore-centric platform that is faster, with better usability and stability.
With this new release, we are continuing our journey toward reliability and extensibility; continuing the improvements from Techlog 2021.1 on zonation, annotation management, and upgrading Kmod workflow to the latest Application Workflow Interface (AWI) engine.

On the domain side, we continue to enrich the 3D Petrophysics workflow, improving the auto population of tool settings and borehole parameters for forward modeling and inversion; as well as updating the environmental corrections algorithm and adding the support of trendlines for QElan computation.

In Europe and North America, Techlog 2021.2 is now available in the Petrotechnical Suite in the DELFI cognitive E&P environment.

Foundation

Usability

With Techlog 2021.2, we deliver continuous improvements to facilitate your processing and interpretation workflows:
Kmod

  • Enhanced error plot interaction actions (e.g., zoom; hand mode; vertical, horizontal, and global adjustments)
  • Enhanced error plot display (e.g., full line for learning wells, dashed line for validation wells)
  • Added structure shortcuts (e.g., insert, delete, copy, paste nodes and layers)

Annotation

  • Enhanced multiple tails option that allows users to point multiple times from one single annotation box within a track
  • Added ellipsis—a series of three dots— that indicates to the the user the part of the text in the annotation text box that is not shown

AWI

  • Improved searching capability to switch between variable and constant parameters within an AWI

Python

  • Added new object oriented with Python application programming interfaces (APIs) to improve the performance and usability of data access and manipulation (tl.entity, tl.context, tl.working_set)
  • Enhanced Python API to get the regression equation saved at one given storage level (user, project, company) and its coefficients
  • Enhanced Python APIs to access the advance filters for single well crossplot, crossplot variable vs array (AVA), crossplot array, and multiwell crossplot
  • Enhanced parameter manager, which has a new field called “Label” to add more flexibility in defining the names of parameters, input selection, and mnemonic selection window of AWI
  • Enhanced family of output variable of Python API, which can now be controlled by Python editor properties

TechData

  • Improved quick data mining saving to remember order and on-off columns and rows, and filters applied
  • Added ability to export result of quick data mining into Excel®
  • Added columns in the equation editor (including Creator, creation time and date, last modified by, last modification data, and comments) for better traceability

Plots

  • Added global statistics of multiple wells in histogram
  • Enabled option to display the grid above and below all Techlog 2021.2 plots.

Other improvements

  • Added ability to the lithology loader  to import existing lithology catalogs
  • Enhanced capacity of the lithology manager to create as well as modify lithology catalogs

Petrophysics

3DP- High angle well evaluation (3DPH)

  • Ability to initialize the sigma (thermal neutron capture cross section) property and perform forward modeling of sigma for the EcoScope multifunction logging-while-drilling service and NeoScope sourceless formation evaluation-while-drilling service 675 tools. This is available in both global and local layer modes. These new functionalities can be used as part of the model-compare-update workflow to obtain the geometry effect-free layer sigma property. The entire workflow will help to differentiate formation fluids (water, oil/gas) and perform resistivity independent saturation.

  • The Rv Rh inversion in the global layer model now accepts the PeriScope bed boundary mapping service directional channels, as inputs. This new capability enhances the accuracy of inversion outputs, especially the inverted boundary positions and dips. The Rv Rh inversion is currently available to Schlumberger customers as a processing service only.

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)

  • proVISION Plus magnetic resonance-while-drilling service data QC and 2D inversion: Support of 5 wait times and rate of penetration (ROP) correction
The proVISION Plus service’s logging-while-drilling NMR tool can now be configured to acquire echo trains with 5 wait times compared with the standard 3 wait time acquisition. These special sequences are intended to enhance sensitivity to T1 polarization time required for a new fast ROP correction. Techlog 2021.2 is now enhanced to support the 5-wait time echo trains for data QC and 2D inversion and to perform the ROP correction ensuring a more accurate porosity over a wider range of drilling and reaming conditions.
  • NMR tool processing plug-in: Now available as a native Techlog platform module
The NMR tool processing module enables data processing and inversion for MREX, MagTrak, MRIL, MRIL-Prime, MRIL-XL, MRILWD, NMRT, and EMRT. It is now available in Techlog 2021.2 under NMR license. The previously required NMR processing license is no longer needed for this module.

Studio E&P knowledge platform

  • Data items deleted by users are not deleted permanently from the repository but are stored in a delete state that can be restored to the repository. Users with Admin and Super user roles that are assigned to the repository can see a recycle bin icon in the repository browser that shows all data items that can be restored to the repository.
  • Users with a "user" role assigned to the repository have the ability to delete data items they created on their own on the repository side if those data items haven’t been modified by other users.
  • The “retrieve from other repositories” tool has been updated adding the dataset level to the tree view. The user can now search by dataset name in other repositories and retrieve datasets from other repositories to their local Techlog platform project.

Users

The Techlog platform is suitable for all geoscientists dealing with wellbore data and associated interpretation, across multiple domains performing collaborative workflows all the way from exploration to production.
