New Software Release

Techlog 2020.2 Now Available

Friday, 27 November 2020

Product overview

The Techlog wellbore software platform has been continually developed and tested for the last 20 years. The result is a leading wellbore-centric platform that is faster, with better usability and stability.

With this new release, we are continuing our journey started with the Techlog 2020.1 release toward reliability and extensibility. It offers performance improvements on the Python 3.6 engine and overall usability of the software with an update of zonation management to reduce workflow complexity and propose a new way of using hierarchical zonation.

On the domain side we continue to support the new tool for 3D petrophysics workflow, improving the usability and data exchange with the Petrel E&P software platform and a new algorithm for geomechanics workflows.

In Europe and North America, Techlog 2020.2 is now available in the DELFI cognitive E&P environment as part of the Petrotechnical Suite.

Usability:

With Techlog 2020.2, we continue to deliver continuous improvements to facilitate your processing and interpretation workflows:

  • Merged zonation type catalog and zonation dock window into one global zonation window
  • Introduced the concept of global zonation stored as entity in the project to replace zonation type catalog
  • Enabled compatibility and upgrades that are totally transparent for the user when opening a project
  • Added ability to convert zonation type catalog into new global zonation objects, keeping the legacy catalog for backward compatibility
  • Added ability to define and edit a hierarchy inside the global zonation window with n levels
  • Added ability to add, edit, and remove zones from the dock window
  • Added ability to display the hierarchy inside zonation track on the logview
  • Added ability to use the hierarchy on AWI workflows and to combine levels
  • Added ability to define symbol position more precisely using top, middle, and bottom positions.

Performance

  • Improved Python engine by 20%

Studio E&P Knowledge Platform

  • Conditional selection is now available on the repository browser.
  • New application in Studio Manager to control validation rules (enable/disable)
  • Update to Oracle 19C as a long-time supported version for future releases
  • Ability to highlight items inside the repository browser and Techlog platform project browser at the same time

Petrophysics

3DPH

  • Resistivity initialization and forward modeling in Local Layer Mode: 3DP now allows automatic inversion for layer neutron porosity property in Local Layer Mode using the data of Schlumberger EcoScope and adnVISION 475 tools. This new functionality complements the model-compare-update workflow

  • Neutron inversion for Schlumberger adnVISION tool: 3DP now allows automatic inversion for layer neutron porosity property for the adnVISION tool in Local Layer Mode. This new functionality complements the model-compare-update workflow. Neutron inversion for Schlumberger EcoScope tool was already available since Techlog 2020. 1.

  • Edit boundary positions through adjusting square logs horizontally: You are now able to edit the Local Layer Model boundary positions through dragging square logs horizontally. This enhances the tuning of local layer model geometry.

  • Loading geometry point sets into 3DP-H: Point loading logic selection is now available during preview. 3DP provides two logics for loading the geometry points: All points and deflection points. This new feature enables you to preview the points with both loading logics and decide which point loading logic to use for loading the points.

  • Create markers from dips: You can create markers from the dip sinusoids or tadpoles displayed in the top logview panel of 3DP-H.

Geomechanics

  • The calculation of horizontal stress from the effective stress ratio has been added.
  • The plane of weakness has been added.
  • The pressure vs. depth cross-plot as an output for PPP has been added.
  • The effective stress calculation as an output of PPP has been added.
  • All Python scripts have been migrated to the AWI Engine V2.
  • Gaps in WBS workflow combinations have been filled: Failure Criteria+ThermalStress+Failure Arc.

Plugins

  • Calculator is now available on the Ocean software development framework store to facilitate small equation edition or generation and to provide quick and easy end point calculation that could benefit any petrophysics workflow (Quanti.QElan multicomponent inversion solver, etc.)
  • V3 of SCAL special core analysis management software is available on the Ocean framework store, leveraging new capability to compute relative permeability (KR) and capillary pressure (PC) from end points.

Users

The Techlog platform is suitable for all geoscientists dealing with wellbore data and associated interpretation across multiple domains performing collaborative workflows from exploration to production.
