Schlumberger Acquires Flaresim

Strategic acquisition leads to industry’s first integrated flare system analysis software

In an industry first, Schlumberger is bringing flare and process simulation software together to create an all-inclusive software package for flare system analysis. Creating this integrated solution was made possible by Schlumberger’s strategic acquisition of Flaresim Ltd and enables its customers to better manage HSE responsibilities relating to flare systems.

Flaresim Ltd developed Flaresim, the industry-standard software for estimation of thermal radiation from a flare system. The software models thermal radiation and noise footprints generated by flare systems, and predicts the temperature of exposed surfaces within range. It performs full 3D flame-shape analysis with complete flexibility in the location and orientation of multiple stacks, and rapid evaluation of flare systems under different wind speeds and directions.

By connecting Flaresim to the process model within the Symmetry process software platform, Schlumberger offers an end-to-end process workflow for simulating the effect of process upsets on the flare header and stack.

“This is an exciting addition to our offering. By bringing flare and process simulation together we can provide the only all-inclusive software package for flare system analysis in the marketplace” said Trygve Randen, President, Software Integrated Solutions.
