Product details

Flaresim™ flare systems design and analysis software is the industry standard and the leading software in the design and evaluation of flare systems, for both onshore and offshore applications. It provides accurate modelling of thermal radiation, temperature, and noise footprint during flaring of chemical processes, enabling comprehensive flare safety studies that generate highly customizable visual reports.

Gas dispersion calculations are available to model flammability and toxicity of combustion products, unburnt flared fluids, and pollutants. Combustion products are also reported for flare emissions accounting.

Flaresim software incorporates the Symmetry™ fluid engine, a robust physical property package that allows users to accurately characterize any fluid, providing access to an extensive library of pure components and thermodynamic property packages. Symmetry fluid engine is used in other SLB software products including Symmetry™ process simulation software, Olga™ dynamic multiphase flow simulator, and Pipesim™ steady-state multiphase flow simulator as well as non-SLB products, such as HTRI.

Flaresim software capabilities can also be accessed from within the Symmetry flare workspace, which provides capabilities to simulate the entire flare system in steady state and dynamics, including pressure relief valve (PRV) sizing and hydraulic analysis of the flare network.

Recent updates

Flaresim 2024 incorporates enhancements for flare tip sizing and vendor data input, isopleth plot display options, and dynamic thermal radiation modelling, among others. This release includes updates from Flaresim 2024.1, Flaresim 2023.2, Flaresim 2023.1, and Flaresim 2022.3. Highlights from the last year of maintenance updates are included below.

Consistent and customizable receptor point display

An additional layer of customization has been added to isopleth plot display options, enabling users to choose the color of each receptor point in their model. This color selection is consistently applied to the point in every plot it appears in across receptor grids, further enhancing quick interpretation of results and the ability to generate personalized reports.

Account for changes in fluid properties over time

Flaresim software dynamic modeling has been expanded to enable input of fluid temperature, molecular weight, and lower heating value (LHV) over time. This information is critical for accurate determination of the peak relief rate and its duration.

Extended options for flare tip sizing

Tip sizing calculations support new pressure-based design parameters like inlet pressure and pressure drop at both the seal and tip. Previously available design parameters, such as “Mach number” and “Tip ID” offer improved accuracy, as they now also take the impact of pressure drop into account.

Tip and seal vendor data input

Flaresim software now offers the option to take vendor data into account when calculating pressure drop across the flare tip and/or seal by enabling user input of this tabular data. Curve data may also be saved after input and then easily loaded into other tips or cases.

Integration with Symmetry flare workspace

Flaresim software flare safety calculations are available within the Symmetry flare workspace. The units displayed in Flaresim software-generated isopleth plots can now be customized from within Symmetry software. Similarly, users can now customize isopleth colors, plot details, and contour details from Symmetry software for increasingly seamless integration.
