The final day of Global Forum gave attendees their final opportunity to get closer to the latest in technology via the interactive exhibition space and the final sessions of the comprehensive technical program. It also provided a chance to reflect on the themes of this important event, which attracted more than 200 E&P companies and industry bodies from 61 countries, jointly responsible for 70% of the world’s hydrocarbon production.

Welcome to a new era in E&P

“We are in this together. What’s Next starts today.”

Paal Kibsgaard, chairman and chief executive officer, Schlumberger Limited

Our biggest Forum yet, the SIS Global Forum 2017, took place at a pivotal moment for the oil and gas industry

The challenging market context was a theme for all of our plenary speakers—set alongside a strong sense of constructive optimism for the future.

Grasping the exciting opportunities offered by digital innovation was the overriding theme from the main stage, including the rallying cry from Patrick Pouyanné, CEO, Total, for the industry to embrace digital disruption to practical demonstrations of the bottom-line benefits presented by companies including Statoil, Occidental Petroleum, and BP.

Collaboration and working in partnership was another dominant theme; all of the speakers highlighted the need for production companies and service providers to work together to overcome the major challenges facing the sector.

So what’s next? Paal Kibsgaard told attendees, “We are now ready to jointly capitalize on all the efforts that have been made over the past decade to create the next generation of solutions that will help the industry face the current and the future challenges. We are in this together. What’s Next starts today.”

New solutions will unlock the value in data

“DELFI enables our customers to . . . unlock the value in all data for making critical business decisions.”

Ashok Belani, executive vice president, Technology, Schlumberger

SIS Global Forum 2017 was the launch pad for two major new technology solutions from Schlumberger, each of which promises to unlock the power of data to help customers to achieve better business outcomes.

The DELFI cognitive E&P environment will enable collaboration across exploration and production (E&P) teams and leverages the full potential of all available data and science to optimize E&P assets. It will provide a new way of working for asset teams by strengthening integration between the geophysics, geology, reservoir engineering, drilling, and production domains.

DrillPlan digital well construction planning solution is the first step in the DELFI environment. It is part of a fully integrated well construction offering, which transforms planning and execution performance and enhances the efficiency and quality of every well drilled.

Speaking about the DrillPlan solution at the Forum, Bernard Looney, chief executive, Upstream BP, said, “Until now, well construction has not been in the spotlight. It is still frequently carried out in very old-fashioned ways with engineers in different locations shifting designs around by email. However, that is changing. Schlumberger have acted with their characteristic creativity to identify this gap in the industry’s digital environment and find a way to fill it.”
