Release highlights

Symmetry™ process simulation software helps users model process workflows in a single collaborative environment, while integrating pipelines, pipe networks, facilities models, and flare systems to enable consistent thermodynamics and fluid characterization across the whole system. With Symmetry software, users can switch between steady-state and dynamic modeling, optimize processes in upstream, midstream, downstream, and new energy sectors, and maximize the total value of the asset.

Symmetry 2025.2 features improvements to the absorption models’ speed of convergence, increased accuracy for CO2 property calculations, increased functionality for the built-in process flow diagram (PFD) and optimizer workflow improvements among other additions.

Improve the stability and convergence of CO2 capture and acid gas models

A new algorithm to avoid linearly dependent reaction schemes has been developed and implemented in the Amines 2 thermodynamic model. Models are expected to be faster and more stable. Users can expect a ten to 20 times improvement in calculation speed. The user can find the details of the reaction scheme used in any part of the flowsheet using the Amine detail unit operation when the advanced CO2 capture license option is active.

For R&D into novelty solvent formulations and additional tuning to experimental data, Amines 2 offers the flexibility to incorporate user-defined amines and custom reactions beyond those available in the Symmetry software database. Contact us for more information on these advanced features.

Higher accuracy option for CO2 properties

Improved CO2 thermal property calculation option is now available when using the APR for Natural Gas 2 thermodynamic model. These calculations can be enabled by selecting “Apply correction to CO2 thermal properties” in the settings of the property package configuration. The correction is applied using the Span-Wagner method.

Additional functionality coming to the built-In PFD

The built-in PFD functionality has been enhanced with the following features: full support of 2D shapes across all unit operations, material balance tables, text boxes and additional manipulation of shapes are supported. Additionally, PFDs can now be printed directly from the application.

The material balance configuration workflow has also been streamlined, making it easier to search for and select material streams.

Get your optimizer results faster than ever

New improvements to the interior point optimizer method enables users to get results up to 70% faster. New functionality in the case study tool includes “trend studies” for batch creation of case studies to investigate trends in the active optimizer and “bulk actions” that automates running multiple case studies in a single action to save time. The user can find an improved and easy to use summary report available in the status bar of the optimizer window to provide more insight on how the optimization run went.
