Wednesday, 16 December 2020

Product overview

The Petrel E&P software platform offers geoscientists and engineers a single platform for collaborative workflows with best-in-class technology and leading innovation. From seismic processing to production, the Petrel platform enables seamless integration across all subsurface domains, enabling you to deliver your best field development plan.

Our commitment to technology and quality is one of Schlumberger’s guiding principles. Petrel 2020.4 delivers the latest updates in domain workflows, functionality, and productivity. It also leverages the power of the DELFI cognitive E&P environment’s data ecosystem to bring the latest advances in cognitive technology to your favorite E&P platform—whether you’re working in the DELFI environment or on-premise.

Committed to openness, in 2020 we are making the Petrel platform data accessible across the DELFI cognitive E&P environment through its open data ecosystem. This enables us to enrich everyday tasks and workflows, while delivering unparalleled productivity and integration, ultimately enabling you to make better informed decisions faster.

Release updates

Data and Foundation

Data integrity with Studio E&P knowledge platform

There are several new refresh tasks in Studio Manager 2020.4. Tasks related to spatial shape data consistency for fault and multi-Z interpretation—in new and existing repositories—means improved data integrity. Automatic truncation of well top folder names (to a max of 64 characters) in the well top tab of the data table allows for smooth data transfer and upgrade.

Use variables for well top attribute commands

In Petrel 2020.2 we enabled the use of well top attribute operations (both continuous and discrete) in the workflow editor. In Petrel 2020.4 we have enabled the use of variables in these commands, enabling a greater flexibility to fully automate model creation.

Export noninterpolated trajectories

In Petrel 2020.4 you have the ability to export single or multiple wells without the interpolated trajectory points, enabling you to preserve the original data points and improve data integrity.

Development

Create structural scenarios

You can now rapidly create new models and alternative structural framework scenarios by replicating and saving model parameters. This functionality optimizes the generation of scenarios from an initial model, using alternate inputs and parameters. The generated parameter sets are accessible through the workflow editor, facilitating automation in model creation and update.

Convert fault properties to points

Building on the fault seal analysis workflows for fault frameworks, structural models, and depogrids, in Petrel 2020.4 you will be able to convert fault properties to points. This includes the calculation of weighted averages per fault and enables you to perform more detailed analysis of your fault properties in the histogram, stereonet, and function windows.

Production

Evaluate workover candidate feasibility

In Petrel 2020.4 we are continuing to build on the new workover candidate recognition and validation workflow. The new economic analysis work step enables you to evaluate the economic feasibility of different workover options for a candidate well using economic indicator, thereby enabling you to make effective workover decisions based upon economic criteria. The use of analytical forecasts (decline curve analysis and type wells) are now also supported in the workflow, providing another option to numerical simulation.

Users

The Petrel E&P software platform and Studio E&P knowledge platform bring benefits to all geoscientists and engineers, including seismic processors, seismic interpreters, geologists, reservoir modelers, reservoir engineers, drilling engineers, production geologists, and data and information managers. They can be deployed by companies working in exploration, development, and production for either unconventional or conventional reservoirs.
