The INTERSECT simulator sets a new standard for reservoir simulation that goes beyond the capabilities offered by current-generation simulators. The result is improved accuracy and efficiency in field development planning and risk mitigation—even for the most complex fields.
The INTERSECT simulator enables engineers to accurately and quickly model:
Petrel Reservoir Engineering constitutes the user environment for all Schlumberger reservoir simulation solutions, and you can run the INTERSECT simulator from Petrel Reservoir Engineering.
The release of INTERSECT 2019.2 delivers key features in field management and usability. These features support the modeling and optimization of advanced completions, and enhance usability in grid edits, reporting, and field management.
In INTERSECT 2019.2, advanced completions optimizers are implemented to optimize the dynamic settings of downhole flow control valves (FCVs) to improve oil recovery. A reactive optimizer defers the arrival of gas and water by dynamically balancing flows from the production zones. A proactive streamline optimizer defers the arrival of water using streamlines to equalize the time of flight from the water front to the production zones.
INTERSECT 2019.2 supports the modeling of the Manara production and reservoir management system. This intelligent completion system provides downhole permanent monitoring and in-lateral flow control of multiple zones and compartments in real time. The pressure drop across a station in the Manara system is modeled with five components including a valve and a venturi flow meter.
INTERSECT 2019.2 adds a new formulation using natural variables for the well model. Improved performance is observed with the new formulation on some thermal simulation cases with a large number of well segments.
Customized reporting through expressions can now be defined for multiple flow entities (wells, groups, completions, regions) at the same time. In previous releases, the expressions had to be defined individually for each of the flow entities.
Expressions in grid edits now support logical operation (if) and more mathematical functions such as trigonometric, truncation, etc.
INTERSECT 2019.2 provides a single command to move wells from one group to another. Change in group members, rather than the entire group tree, can be printed out.
CSV control is extended to support two new date formats, month-day-year and year-month-day, in addition to the existing day-month-year.
In field management expressions, the logical operations can now be combined with numerical operations to define conditional values.
In field management expressions, the lookup functions are extended to support time as a variable and the reporting of time-derivative of quantities.
The INTERSECT simulator sets a new standard for reservoir simulation, bringing benefits to reservoir engineers performing numerical simulation using high resolution models and complex field operating conditions. The INTERSECT simulator also brings value and benefits for production and completion engineers working with advanced completion simulations and complex hydraulic fracture scenarios. Reservoir geomechanics engineers can also use the INTERSECT simulator when dealing with cases like reservoir integrity analysis and permeability changes, which is possible through the integration of the INTERSECT simulator and VISAGE finite-element geomechanics simulators.
