Ocean Software Development Framework for Petrel 2014 now available

​The Ocean software development framework gives oil and gas companies the freedom to create advantage by building or integrating specialized technologies and workflows directly inside Schlumberger software platforms, including the Petrel E&P software platform and Studio E&P knowledge environment.

Release Details

​The Ocean Framework for Petrel 2014 provides a unified environment and framework for rapid development, deployment, and upgrade of Ocean plug-ins to extend Petrel platform workflows across exploration, development, and production in conventional and unconventional reservoirs, while maintaining platform robustness and stability.
 

With this new release, the Ocean framework continues to support the Petrel extensibility strategy by doubling the number of domains supported—Mocking Framework, Microseismic, Multi-Z, and Shale have all been added since the last release.

Installation Information

​The Ocean framework for Petrel 2014 will install developer tools (Ocean wizards) in Microsoft Visual Studio 2012, which should be installed before Ocean. It uses Microsoft .NET version 4.5. It is not compatible with Visual Studio 2013. The Petrel 2014 software release is available in 64-bit version only (there is no 32-bit support).
 
The Ocean framework for Petrel 2014 features a developer-only 32-bit version of the Petrel platform to support “edit and continue”, and various 32-bit developer tools. This version of the Petrel platform can only be run with an Ocean developer license (Ocean framework for Petrel). Any Ocean plug-in for Petrel 2014 must be tested and commercialized for 64-bit version only.
 

The Ocean framework for Studio and supporting documentation can be downloaded also from the Software Download Center and release documentation can also be accessed from the Studio 2014 documentation page.

Target Audience

​Target customers for 2014 version of the Ocean Framework are developers, geoscientists, and engineers in E&P companies, third party software vendors, Schlumberger developers, and students that are creating plug-ins for Petrel platform.
 

Ocean Partners are working on the upgrade of their plug-ins. More than 600 plug-ins have been created and more than 120 plug-ins are commercial and distributed via the Ocean Store.
