Kinetix Software for Petrel 2019.2 Now Available

Product overview

The Kinetix reservoir-centric stimulation-to-production software is a plug-in for the Petrel E&P software platform. It is designed for multi-stage completion and stimulation design and production evaluation for conventional and unconventional reservoirs.

The Kinetix software plug-in consists of two tabs on the Petrel ribbon that are enabled when the Stimulation perspective is selected on the Home tab: Hydraulic fracture design and Hydraulic fracture production.

The Hydraulic fracture design tab contains all the processes related to hydraulic fracture design, including setting up a well, making zones, making completions, creating pump schedules, creating stimulation cases, and others.

The Hydraulic fracture production tab contains all the processes related to hydraulic fracture production, including creating production grids, defining cases, managing scenarios, calibrating history matches, analyzing net present value (NPV), and more.

Release updates

Two new options, Vertical toughness and Intra-stage stress shadow, are now available for the UFM model.

The following features have been added in Sensitivity analysis:

  • Metric unit support
  • Sensitivity on fracture models only
  • Ability to retrieve fracture geometry in Discrete fracture network (DFN) form from selected experiments

The unstructured grid output now includes the new integer property Well ID.

Scenario manager functionality was largely replaced by the Sensitivity analysis module, also known as Sensitivity on the Cloud. Scenario manager has been obsoleted and is not available in Kinetix for Petrel 2019, Release 2.

The P3D model has an option to calculate Advanced proppant transport. This option supports a pulsed pumping schedule (HiWAY flow-channel fracturing technique), as well as traditional non-pulsed schedules. A legacy HiWAY technique module is still available in P3D. This feature requires a HiWAY schedule generated from the Define pumping schedule process as an input. When the P3D with Advanced proppant transport model matures, the legacy HiWAY module will be retired. The UFM model, on the other hand, continues to use legacy HiWAY schedules to simulate a pulsed design. This option remains available in Kinetix software on Windows, but not in Kinetix software on the DELFI environment.


The Kinetix software plug-in is suitable for stimulation engineers, completion engineers, production engineers, reservoir engineers, geologists, geophysicists, geoscientists, petrophysical engineers, petrophysicists, geomechanics, and other engineering and science professionals involved in geomechanical, petrophysical, and reservoir engineering workflows for formation stimulation design and treatment execution, production, petrophysical, and geomechanical static and dynamic properties evaluation.
