Production from an oil field can be limited by many constraints such as reservoir deliverability, the capability of the surface facilities to handle produced fluids, and economic considerations such as capital and operating expenditure, availability of rig resources, value of the produced fluids, and the cost of disposing of unwanted fluids.

Intersect simulator field management lets you build a working operational model of the oil field. The model captures all the operational constraints and complex operating logic required to manage the asset.

Field management using the Intersect simulator is designed to be independent of the simulation grid and operate in terms of oilfield concepts rather than grid cells. When the grid is changed, the field management logic stays the same for efficiently conducting effective simulation studies.

The logical framework enables reservoir engineers to impose physical constraints and logical rules on the simulation: “If the gas/oil ratio (GOR) for a well increases above 90%, close it” or “If the pressure within a region falls below a certain value, increase the water injection.”

The Intersect simulator field management controls are designed to model common operational scenarios, for example, pressure maintenance in reservoir regions, control of water and gas coning, and cyclic well control such as water-alternating-gas (WAG).

Balancing algorithms ensure that higher level constraints from various sources are enforced and consistent with the current state of the wells and reservoir. Restrictions on drilling rigs or operating funds can be captured so that the well in the simulation model runs according to real-world operational limits.
